Christmas Sugar Cookies

Ingredients:

3 cups all-purpose flour 🌾

1/2 teaspoon baking powder 🧂

1/4 teaspoon salt 🧂

1 cup unsalted butter, softened 🧈

1 and 1/4 cups granulated sugar 🍚

1 large egg 🥚

2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract 🌿

Red and green gel food coloring 🌈

Directions:

In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.

Add the egg and vanilla extract to the butter mixture and beat until well combined.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until a soft dough forms.

Divide the dough in half. Leave one half plain and tint the other half with red food coloring, and the remaining half with green food coloring.

Shape each colored dough into a disk, wrap them in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

On a lightly floured surface, roll out each colored dough to about 1/4-inch thickness.

Use cookie cutters to cut out desired shapes from both doughs.

Carefully transfer the colored shapes onto the plain shapes, creating colorful layered cookies.

Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.

Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
